All renderings and images on this site were scanned using a Dicomed Field Pro scanning camera. This scanning camera back was attached to a Polaroid MP-4 camera stand and Videssence Koolite 220 lights. Each image was captured in a single scan (no stitching of multiple shots). Images were imported to a MacIntosh G-4 computer, manipulated as necessary for maximum clarity and color correction, and then saved to gold-foil CD-ROM's for long-term storage of the master copy of each digital image.

This hardware configuration only permitted the Digital Collections Unit to capture images from original items no larger than 30 inches in either dimension. Future plans include an upgrade to a system that can scan up to 60 x 40". The very few oversized items that could not be scanned for the project will then be added to the database as technology permits.

The renderings were scanned at approximately 300 pixels per inch at 24 bits of color. Derivative thumbnail and screen-size images later were produced from the high-resolution images as an automated process.

All items were described in a FileMaker Pro database. Fields in the database include:

In the near future, this database will be migrated to another database using XML encoding as a transport medium for the information. More details coming soon!
