Unless otherwise requested, all scanning will adhere to the following standard output. Digital Collections staff will create a 24-bit uncompressed TIFF file with a resolution of 600 ppi at 100% of the original. In addition, at least one derivative JPEG image will also be created for each scan. This will enable quick viewing of your scanned item.

Internal/External Rates
Any order originating from university departments, students, or staff on university business will incur the internal charge. Examples include, but are not limited to, term/research papers, class presentation materials and departmental projects. Students must present a current ID and staff should provide a CUFS number for internal billing at the time of placing an order. Orders not falling within the above boundaries will be charged at the external rate.
Processing Fee
This fee covers the administrative costs of processing an order.
Most materials must be left with our professional staff and are always kept in secured areas while in our possession. If this cannot be facilitated and the processing must be overseen by the customer, a Rush Charge will be applied if the customer does not set up an appointment with a member of our Digital Collections staff at least 48 hours in advance.

Flatbed Scanning
Flatbed scanning represents the most common form of scanning, and will be used when material permits. However, we reserve the right to select another method of scanning if the original area to be scanned is larger than 11x14 inches or if the binding or document is considered too fragile to be safely scanned on the flatbed. In such cases, material will be scanned using the digital camera and the increased cost will be assessed.
Sheet-fed Scanning
For larger projects, primarily loose text documents, we can offer this option at a much lower cost than flatbed scanning. However, we reserve the right to select another method of scanning if the original area to be scanned is larger than 11x14 inches or if document is considered too fragile or unique to be safely sheet-fed.
Digital Camera Scanning
The digital camera can handle originals up to 60x40 inches. Larger images must be done in 2 or more separate scans and are provided as separate image files and charged per scan. Image manipulation fees will also be applied on top of the scan charges if, by request of the customer, the images are stitched together into a single file.
Film/35mm Mounted Slide Scanning
We can provide high quality scans from film originals. This includes unmounted 35mm negatives, 120mm, 4x5 and 8x10 positive and negative films, as well as glass plates. Our scanners handle all sizes up to 8x10 inches. Additionally, our 35mm mounted slide scanner can capture digital images at 2400 ppi and at a substantially lower cost than our standard film scanning.
Copies of Existing Scans
A pre-existing scan is an image that is part of an existing digital collection. It requires no additional scanning on our part to complete the production process. A request for an enlargement, different resolution or any other change will require a new scan to be made. In these cases regular scanning prices will apply.
Image Manipulation
Scanned images include a check for neutral colors and brightness. We will attempt to produce an image as faithful to the original as technology will permit. Any further image manipulation will be charged at an hourly rate. This includes, but is not limited to, stitching two or more images together or more detailed color adjustments.
Project Scanning
Orders of over 100 images will receive a project discount. Please refer to the price list to find out which discounted rate applies.
